| It is worthy of note that Newhouse remained in the hands of the Sinclair family from about 1815 until the present time (1994), an occupancy covering five generations that began with James Sinclair above. | |||

| In his book, Around the Orkney Peat Fires, WR Mackintosh relates the story of Hugh Hourston of Sound in Egilsay who was captured by the Press Gang and put aboard a man o’war. A few days later, he was instrumental in saving the ship from danger, and as a reward, was given his freedom by a grateful captain. | |||

Robert W Marwick thought that he was a descendant of Hugh Hourston. He claimed that Hugh was a brother of Maidie and Marian above. |
