Sinclair at the Hudson Bay Company (HBC) 1806 - 1813

1806 |
John Sinclair of Rousay signed a three-year contract with HBC and was described as 19 years of age, signing on 25 June 1806 along with David Geddes and George Geddes. His annual pay was £8, with a note about a bounty on top of that. |
||
| He came out to York Fort in 1806 on the King George, the HBC ship under the command of John Turner. The ship sailed from London to Yarmouth, then to Orkney, laying in Corston Roads from 21 to 28 June, at Churchill from 5 to10 August, and finally arriving at York on 17 August before loading the cargo and returning employees. The ship was convoyed out by the Bilette and travelled with the Prince of Wales that was bound for Moose Factory. | |||

John Sinclair, Labourer, 19 years of age; wages, bounty and cash each £8. The others coming from Rousay on the same ship and bound for York were: Alexander Work (20), William Morwick (18), George Morwick (24) and John Morwick (21). |

The men sent out on that ship included 15 for Severn (none from Rousay), 21 for York (6 from Rousay) and 26 for Churchill, 14 tailors, carpenters, bricklayers and sailors, and 12 labourers (only one from Rousay, Hugh Craigie, 21, a tailor). |

On 28 June 1806 in Stromness they were slinging Hammocks and berthing the Passengers. |

|
On Tuesday, 19 August 1806 the ship was in the York Factory River and the longboat was sent with cargo and passengers. |

| He was listed as serving at Sepewisk (on Sipiwisk Lake in North River District, now in northern Manitoba), along with Split Lake, Burntwood River and Grass River, under Laughlin Leith and Thomas Isbester. | |||
